'Midwifery is about developing a trusting, caring, supportive relationship, that provides women with the confidence in their body to birth their baby safely'

Midwife Teena

From the very beginning of her midwifery career 20 years ago, Teena has believed in the importance of one-to-one midwifery care. Establishing a relationship where women and families are central to the care and supported in making informed decisions.

Having a baby is a very special, transformative life event and Teena feels it’s an absolute privilege to partner women and their families through the transition to parenthood. She is passionate about providing evidence based, women-centred, individualised care, through pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum including their breastfeeding journey.

Teena believes it is important that your whole birth team is known to you and there are no strangers in the birth space, so you may feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Teena provides a known second midwife for your birth (We always have two midwives for birth in home and in hospital for safety and legal requirements) Emma, who she has known and worked with for many years. You will have the opportunity to meet her for one of your appointments in your pregnancy. As Teena has known and worked with Emma for her whole career, many women tell us that they really loved that we are so cohesive in the birth environment, providing that extra level of support and care.

Teena only cares for a small number of continuity of care women each month to make sure she is available when you need it most, therefore it is important to reach out early in pregnancy, or even preconception to secure your place.

Teena would love to hear your story and support you through your journey. Contact her for a FREE information chat.

Birthing in Hospital

Teena has admitting rights at Westmead Public Hospital that affords women the opportunity for Teena to remain their direct care midwife if a homebirth transfer is required, or if women either chooses to birth in hospital or have a high-risk pregnancy that a hospital birth is recommended. That means that you have your own birth team in the hospital who are known to you, and practice evidence-based care.

That team also involves a very women-centred private obstetrician who supports informed choice. As part of your birth team, you will have an appointment with her together with Teena in your pregnancy. This allows you and your partner to get to know her, and she you, and to discuss your wishes for birth. If further obstetric consultation is required, Teena will consult with her, or if required in labour, she is on call to attend as well. So, your full birth team is known to you even when birthing in hospital. They know you, your beliefs and wishes for your birth experience.

Truly women-centred care where women feel empowered and trusting of their birth team, so they may have the most positive birthing experience possible.
